2005-04-08 - Circles
On a recent vacation, I saw something that rendered me sad, a big dog (perhaps
Labrador mix), penned up in a tiny space. I watched him for about 10 minutes,
as he just ran continuous circles. He never got anywhere, for there was no
escape, just that restricted little space. But he kept trying. 'Round and
'round and 'round he went, with no progress.
I started thinking.....isn't that how we are in life sometimes? It's been
said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over,
expecting different results. If that's true, many of us are insane!
We continue to handle a difficult person the same way over and over, even
though it never makes things better.
We continue to deal with stress the same way - shopping sprees, drinking
too much alcohol, smoking, eating too much - in spite of the budget strain
or adverse health effects.
We keep trying to find happiness in someone or something other than God,
even though it never works.
Not only do we not resolve the issues we are dealing with, but we waste precious
time and money on ineffective and harmful behavior.
What circles have you been going around? I would love to hear about them.
Ask God to help you change your circle to a straight line, moving toward
HIS plan for your life.
