2004-12-13 - Time Gaining on You

1 Corinthians 15:52, "In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet, for the trumpet will sound, and dead shall be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed."

A strange verse to start with, but stick with me. Do you ever feel like time is gaining on you? You should, because it is. The sands of the hourglass are winding down for all of us. However, while we still have breath, we can be useful for the cause of Christ no matter how low our hour glass is running. Do you know of the law of David? It is an interesting rule. Once when David and the troops went into battle some of them were lame, or just too tired to go into battle, so David left them to guard the baggage. When they won, those who fought, took the spoils and did not want to share the spoils of victory with those who had stayed behind and guarded the baggage. However, David said that all should share in the spoils because all had served. The law of David is that any service is still service, and whatever we can do, even small things, in service to Christ should not be minimized. It is still service to Christ.

If you feel like your life has fallen into a routine, or even a dull routine, there is still work to be done by the faithful. We need to refrain from murmuring and despair that our small labors or contributions to God's cause are unnoticed or ineffective, and cultivate cheerfulness in our service to our Lord and Savior. A saint who does his/her part in the service to Christ, no matter how small that part is, can be more eloquent than the most eloquent of preachers. We may reach that one person that the flowery words of another could not reach---just by our faithfulness. While time is running out for all of us, there is always time to be faithful. Time might be gaining on us, but that is only an exit to eternity and glory with Christ.

We have to remember that we can vacuum in the service of Christ. Have you ever thought of that? It is really the mind set/heart that we do it in. Are we doing all things to the glory of God? Yes, I said it, you can vacuum and serve the Lord. Can you do this to God's glory? It really depends on our heart. But, in truth, we are to do all things to God's glory.

One thing, and I will end with this, is that we can encourage each other when we see faithfulness. The power of a kind word is amazing. The refreshing of God's saints is an awesome ministry in itself.
