2004-11-12 - What's the Best Way to Pray,
Anyway?
Prayer, Part 3
Here's a portion of King David's prayer spoken in public.
While in the presence of the whole assembly, David expressed
his praises to the Lord: "O Lord God of our father Israel, praise your name
forever and ever! Yours is the mighty power and glory and victory and majesty.
Everything in the heavens and earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom.
We adore you as being in control of everything. Riches and honor come from
you alone, and you are the Ruler of all mankind; your hand controls power
and might, and it is at your discretion that men are made great and given
strength. O our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name, but who
am I and who are my people, that we should be permitted to give anything
to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we only give you what is
yours already! O Lord God of our fathers: Abraham, Isaac, and Israel! Make
your people always want to obey you, and see to it that their love for you
never changes." (1 Chronicles 29:10-14, 18 TLB)
When King David Prayed, He:
-
Praised God
-
Humbled himself
-
Asked that mankind would always follow God
Lord, I continually praise Your name. Everything belongs
to You! Lord, make people always want to obey You, including me. In Jesus'
name I pray, Amen.
