2004-06-04 - Jesus a Welcomed
Sight
Day 5 Cover Story
Jesus a Welcomed Sight, when an Unwelcome Storm Rages the Sea of Galilee
(To find out more, read Mathew 8:23-27 below,)
Jesus and his disciples were in a boat on the lake. There was a terrible
storm, with waves crashing and covering the boat. Yet even with the commotion,
Jesus was asleep. The disciples woke Him up and shouted for the Savior to
save them from sinking. Witnesses say Jesus didn't understand why the disciples
were frightened. But he rebuked their faithlessness and then rebuked the
storm. As expected, the weather calmed down, as did the disciples after Jesus
stepped in. In awe, the disciples asked who Jesus was, that the storm obeyed
Him.
Then he got into a boat and started across the lake with
his disciples. Suddenly a terrible storm came up, with waves higher than
the boat. But Jesus was asleep. The disciples went to him and wakened him,
shouting, "Lord, save us! We're sinking!" But Jesus answered, "O, you men
of little faith! Why are you so frightened?" Then he stood up and rebuked
the wind and waves, and the storm subsided, and all was calm. The disciples
just sat there, awed! "Who is this," they asked themselves, "that even the
winds and the sea obey him?" (Mathew 8:23-27 TLB)
What if you were in the boat? Would you have believed in Jesus on the spot?
It's hard to imagine why the disciples didn't believe in You on the spot,
when they saw first-hand Your miracles. But I don't have the luxury of hanging
out with You in person as the disciples did.
It's easy to believe You, God. Show me how to have faith
in Your existence and that You want the best for me. Amen.
