2004-05-28 - Hungry for Figs? Keep
Walking
Day 4 Cover Story
See Matthew 21:21-22 below for further details.
It was a different type of miracle for Jesus. No one was physically healed,
nor did food multiply, but a tree withered. A withering tree? Eyewitnesses
saw Jesus near a fig tree early in the morning. He must have been hungry,
said a trusted source. There were only leaves, so Jesus told the tree it
would never produce fruit again! (Matthew 21:19 NIV).
With Jesus' spoken words, the tree dried up. The disciples asked how this
could happen so quickly. Jesus told them there could be no traces of doubt
in one's faith.
Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and
do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also
you can say to this mountain, 'Go throw yourself into the sea,' and it will
be done. If you believe, you will receive what you ask for in prayer." (Matthew
21:21-22 NIV)
Why would some people still not believe in Jesus, after seeing Him do a miracle?
God, replace my doubts with faith that You will see
me through. Even if it isn't the way I would have expected or chosen. In
Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
