2004-03-26 - Identified through
Jacob
The Jesus the Carpenter - His Address Series, Part 5
Hello Friends,
After a break I happy to return to my series Jesus the Carpenter - His Address
In the first three devotionals in this series we found that God pronounced
a promise. He said that he was going to use the seed of the woman to place
a person in the path of Satan to destroy him and restore man to himself.
We found that this prophecy was revealed through the virgin birth of the
son of Mary, who would be named Jesus.
We found that God was going to use Abraham's offspring to bless all nations,
and we determined that this blessing was going to ultimately be through Jesus
Christ.
Next we learned that God narrowed the identifying address of Jesus down by
eliminating fifty percent of the family line of Abraham when God chose Isaac
to be the line that the promised blessing of Jesus Christ would be identified
through.
Today will see God continue to narrow the address down specifically to identify
Jesus the Carpenter.
Now Isaac had two sons - Jacob and Esau. God narrows the identifying address
of Jesus down by eliminating fifty percent of the family line of Issac when
God chose Jacob to be the line that the promised blessing of Jesus Christ
would be identified through.
This is paragraph is commonly known as Jacob's Dream at Bethel. In his dream
is what is traditionally called "Jacob's Ladder" where he sees angels ascending
and descending and at the top he sees the Lord who gives him the promised
blessing.
The Prophecy: Genesis 28:10-15 (Time Period 1898 B.C)
Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Haran. 11 When he reached
a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking
one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep.
12 He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the
earth, with it's top reaching heaven, and the angels of God were ascending
and descending on it. 13 There above it stood the Lord, and
he said: "I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Issac.
I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying.
14 Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and
you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the
south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through and your offspring.
15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go,
and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have
done what I have promised you."
We see Jacob in the Genealogy of Jesus as listed by Matthew.
The Fulfillment: Matthew 1:2 (Time Period 5 B.C.) Abraham
was the father of Issac, Issac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah
and his brothers,
We will continue with another prophecy next time, as we continue to identify
the address of Jesus the Carpenter
May God Bless You my Friends,
Rob
