2004-03-19 - Jesus is the Son of
Man
The Jesus' Names Series, Part 3
WANTED: The Son of Man Must have leadership experience and good judgment.
Seen as an authority figure a plus.
John 6:5-13 Turning to Philip he asked, ´Philip,
where can we buy bread to feed all these people? (He was testing Philip,
for he already knew what he was going to do.) Philip replied, ´It would
take a fortune to begin to do it!
Then Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up. ´There's
a youngster here with five barley loaves and a couple of fish! But what good
is that with all this mob?
´Tell everyone to sit down, Jesus ordered. And all
of them-the approximate count of men only was 5,000-sat down on the grassy
slopes. Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and passed them out
to the people. Afterwards he did the same with the fish. And everyone ate
until full!
´Now gather the scraps, Jesus told his disciples,
´so that nothing is wasted. And twelve baskets were filled with the
leftovers! (NIV)
Read what happened to Phillip and find out:
For a split second, I forgot who I was talking to-Jesus can change things
in an instant. I think my lack of faith got caught up in the people demanding
food and my exasperation on how to feed them. I was mad that it would cost
so much money to feed all of them.
I was looking right at the man who could answer any question, big or small.
And yet, I was limiting Him. At least Andrew mentioned the young boy's food
we could use. Even Andrew didn't think the food would be enough. When Jesus
used the boy's 2 loaves of bread and small fish, it put me to shame. What
a miracle-that small amount of food feeding everyone, with fish and bread
left over!
Lord, gently help me to look for solutions before I
put the blame on You. Thank You. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen
