2004-03-13 - Jesus is the Good
Shepherd
Jesus' Names, Part 1
How bad do you want a job? What if you switched with Jesus?
Throughout the Bible are facts of Jesus' existence. During this series, you'll
learn at least five names that describe Jesus.
WANTED: A Good Shepherd. Fondness for sheep a must. Background in leadership
and experience working outdoors. Not afraid of giving own life for sheep.
Inquire today.
A good shepherd is bound to come into some dangerous situations. Most people
hired for the job would take off when things get tough. At the first sign
of a wolf coming to devour the sheep, they'd run away to save their own life
and forget the sheep. Fortunately, Jesus doesn't think like that, because
He said:
"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives his own
life for the sheep. A man who has been hired is not really a shepherd. The
sheep do not belong to him. When he sees a wolf coming, he leaves the sheep
and runs away. The wolf catches them and scatters them. The man doesn't care
about the sheep, because he is a hired man. I am the good shepherd. I know
my followers and my followers know me, just as my Father knows me and I know
my Father. I will give my life for the sheep." John 10:11-15 (International
English)
Whether there is big stuff in your life, decisions you have to make, or there
seems no way out, Jesus gave everything He is, to save you. All you have
to do is believe in Him.
What do people miss out on by not believing in God?
What are you missing out on?
Lord, I admit there are days I don't have what it takes
to completely trust You. I want to have faith that You are my good shepherd.
I want to hear Your voice. All I can do is ask. I need You to be real in
my life. I know You will. Thank You, God. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
