2003-07-30 - Study

In our lives, we all get so caught up in the " hustle and bustle" of the world, that often times we forget about God. We need to remember to spend time with Him in prayer and study. Those two things are so important to our spiritual growth.

We are called to share the Word of God with the world, but how can we do that if we don't know anything about God? We need to spend time studying the Bible, so that when we are called to share the Word of God with someone, we can accurately do so. If we do not know exactly what the Bible says and we try to teach them something, there is a chance that we will mess it all up and teach them something that is false.

During the sermon on the Mount Jesus tells us if "Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven." (Matthew 5:19) We need to study, and to be sure that we are preaching the right stuff.

Study is also important to our own personal spiritual growth. We need to spend time with God, so that we can grow closer to Him - and so that we can learn more about Him.

Not only do we need to spend time in study and prayer, but we also need to realize the importance of obedience to God's will for our lives. We need to study and realize what God wants for us, and in plain terms, we need to learn to follow His rules. If we are constantly pulling away from His will, how can we grow in Him and our relationship with Him?

"How can you do what Jesus would do, if you don't know what Jesus did?"

The Word of God, For the Children of God, "Thanks be to God."
