2003-05-04 - Passages about Sex
After much thought and prayer, we at cfdevotionals feel led to move on from
the "passages only" devotionals we have done for six years. We feel God leading
us away from this at the present time. In the future, we may send one out
on occasion, but not as a regular weekly habit. Tonight, on our last regular
"passages only" night, we will read passages about something we hear / read
about often, and that many of our readers have to deal with, from married
partners to teens making decisions - sex. We in America (and perhaps other
countries) live in a sex-saturated society, where sexuality is used to try
to fill voids in lives, to sell products and to garner viewers for television
and movies. Here are a couple things the Bible has to say about the subject.
1 Corinthians 7:3-5 (NASB) The husband must fulfill his
duty to his wife, and likewise also the wife to her husband. The wife does
not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; and likewise
also the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife
does. Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time, so that
you may devote yourselves to prayer, and come together again so that Satan
will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
1 Cor 6:5-10 (NASB) I say this to your shame. Is it so,
that there is not among you one wise man who will be able to decide between
his brethren, but brother goes to law with brother, and that before unbelievers?
Actually, then, it is already a defeat for you, that you have lawsuits with
one another. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be defrauded? On the
contrary, you yourselves wrong and defraud. You do this even to your brethren.
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?
Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor
effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards,
nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God
Exodus 20:14 (NASB) You shall not commit adultery.
Matthew 5:27-28 (NASB) You have heard that it was said,
"YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY." But I say to you that everyone who looks
at a woman with lust for her, has already committed adultery with her in
his heart.
