2003-03-13 - Are you Accurate?
I recently went to a service at my church and God spoke to me through our
youth pastor's words. I am not really sure if what I figured out was part
of his sermon. I have been really frustrated with Christians who have been
"corrupted" by society. When we accept the label "Christian", we must accept
the responsibility that God has laid upon us. In Matthew 28:16-20, Jesus
gives us the Great Commission. He tells us to "go and make disciples of all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And
surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
We must act as Jesus would act, and do what Jesus would do. I know all of
you have seen those bracelets that say "What would Jesus do?" But as we all
know, the best way to answer a question is with another question. So I ask
you, "How can you do what Jesus would do, if you don't know what Jesus did?"
We must study the Bible and figure out what it says, because when we go into
the world and make disciples of all nations, we have to act in a Biblical
way. Because I believe that the single most effective way to make atheists
is for Christians to come to church and praise God with their tongues. Then
go into the world and go about their business forget God. Because that, I
believe, is what a unbelieving world, finds unbelievable.
"Our lives may be the only Bible some people will ever read." So why would
we risk going into our society and acting in a way that does not agree with
the Bible? By acting in an ungodly way in front of non-believers, we preach
lies. There is nothing that frustrates me more than Christians who praise
God at church, then go into the world, with crosses around their necks, and
do ungodly things. How can we say that we are God's light for this world,
yet we do ungodly things. Yeah I know a lot of you just thought, "we all
sin, we can't help it." I know that we all sin, what frustrates me are the
sins we choose to commit. Like gossip, like engaging in sexual acts, like
cussing. Whatever it is.
Like all of these devotionals I write, this is a personal thing that you
have to be able to figure out between you and God. You have to decide whether
do what the Bible says is important to you. You have to decide whether providing
a godly example for non-believers is important, and whether what you do daily
provides that godly example.
Is your life an accurate depiction of the Bible?
The Word of God, For the children of God, "Thanks be to God."
God Bless,
Love you all,
