2003-03-08 - Do You See Him?
Before I wrote this devotional, I had the hardest time I have ever had, thinking
of a topic to write about. I spent 30 minutes just walking around, trying
to think. I just didn't feel that God had anything for me to say. I don't
think it means anything in particular; sometimes I just don't feel like God
is working through me. Of course, that doesn't mean He isn't with me, or
that He doesn't love me tonight.
A while ago, I was lying in bed and had been asleep for about 15 minutes,
when I jumped out of bed, ran to the light switch, turned it on, jumped over
my dog and caught myself on the desk at the oppisite side of the room. You
may be wondering what I was doing, jumping around in the middle of the night.
Well guess what, I am going to tell you. God spoke to me, and I had to write
it down before I forgot it.
The following morning, I read what I had written. It said, "Simply because
you can't see God working right now, doesn't mean He isn't here." Before
all of you go to bed tonight, I want you to do something. Just after you
turn off the lights, look around your room and try to pick out the furniture.
You won't be able to see it; trust me. Once your eyes adjust to the darkness,
and you are able to see the furniture: Flick the lights on, then off, as
quickly as you can. You will then have an outline of your furniture printed
on your retina. It's pretty cool.
Now most of you are probably wondering what all this has to do with God.
Tonight I didn't feel God with me, but that doesn't mean He isn't still standing
next to me, and working thrugh my words in this e-mail. God works in His
own way, not in the ways we think He is going to work. That's why sometimes
we ask God for something, then get angry when we don't get it. We tell God
that in the Bible it says, "ask and you shall receive." We begin to lose
faith and doubt God's existence. We don't see what we want to see, so we
get frustrated. All we have to do is open our eyes and let God work how He
will. Even when we don't see what He has done.
The Word of God, For the Children of God, "Thanks be to God."
I love you all,
Derek
