My life experiences, for many years, have been filled with this simple message of importance that God uses to touch the lives of people around me with His love and grace. Once my Pastor wrote a letter for me when I was moving, and I was not exactly sure where the Lord was leading me to. He put it in it many things that described me (even some of the things God is still working on), but one thing in particular that he said, was this that he never knew of anyone who asked for help, whom it was within my power to help, that I ever turned away. I thought about that statement a bit, and I seached my heart as to why. I came to the conclusion of a simple truth I have done my best to apply since I was a young Christian. It was to do the good when I saw it. "Anyone then who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it sins." (James 4:17 NIV)
Life is filled with many opportunities to do good , yet in the opportunities which come to us, we need to do something as a prerequisite. We need to make a choice.
Will we truly listen to the word of God ?
"... faith comes from hearing the message and the message, is heard through the word of God." (Romans 10:17 NIV)
And our choice to submit our will to God like scissors (one side faith and one side deeds) is now a useful tool. God encourages us to do good, yet we need to take time to make time for someone else in our life, to do that good unto them.
Do not merely listen to the word and so, and so decieve yourselves. Do what it says. (James1:22 NIV)
I think of this as making time for what Jesus wants my life to be at that moment. God will place good works in front of us all, yet we need to make a choice to "do good" and walk in them.
