2002-06-21 - What Kind of Weapon Do You Carry?
Ephesians 6:18a Pray at all times and on every occasion in the power of the Holy SpiritHoly Bible : New Living Translation. 1997 Tyndale House: Wheaton, Ill.
We think things out, analyzing situations thoroughly.
We consult Christian friends, for their objective input.
We talk to people who have been in similar situations, or read books / articles by them.
All these are wise steps, whether we are making decisions or dealing with something difficult. These are all vital weapons, given to us by God. But sometimes we leave as "the last resort," the most potent weapon of all - prayer.
Prayer allows us to tap the most powerful Source of wisdom and love in the world. God has everything we need - all the answers, all the solutions, all the power.
What kind of weapon is prayer for you? Is it a semi-automatic, that you have to keep being reminded (by ministers, friends, devotionals) to turn to, because it's not natural? Or is it an automatic weapon - once you pull the trigger (begin the habit of prayer), it continues to fire automatically? Prayer should be our first line of defense and offense, and as natural to us as breathing.
You can't turn a semi-automatic gun into an automatic one. But you can change a semi-automatic prayer life to an automatic one. Prod yourself to turn to God first and throughout your day.
