1 Samuel 1:26-28 (Hannah) She said, "Oh, my lord! As your
soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you, praying to
the LORD. For this boy I prayed, and the LORD has given me my petition which
I asked of Him. So I have also dedicated him to the LORD; as long as he lives
he is dedicated to the LORD." And he worshiped the LORD there.
Luke 1:30-38 (Mary) The angel said to her, "Do not be
afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive
in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. He will be great
and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him
the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob
forever, and His kingdom will have no end." Mary said to the angel, "How
can this be, since I am a virgin?" The angel answered and said to her, "The
Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow
you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God. And
behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old
age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month. For nothing
will be impossible with God." And Mary said, "Behold, the bondslave of the
Lord; may it be done to me according to your word." And the angel departed
from her.
2 Timothy 1:5 For I am mindful of the sincere faith within
you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and
I am sure that it is in you as well.
Proverbs 31:1-3 The words of King Lemuel, the oracle which
his mother taught him:
What, O my son?
And what, O son of my womb?
And what, O son of my vows?
Do not give your strength to women,
Or your ways to that which destroys kings.
Proverbs 31:27-29
She looks well to the ways of her household,
And does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children rise up and bless her;
Her husband also, and he praises her, saying:
"Many daughters have done nobly,
But you excel them all."
Ruth 1: 8-13 (Naomi, mother-in-law of Orpah and Ruth)
And Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, "Go, return each of you to her
mother's house. May the LORD deal kindly with you as you have dealt with
the dead and with me. May the LORD grant that you may find rest, each in
the house of her husband. Then she kissed them, and they lifted up their
voices and wept. And they said to her, "No, but we will surely return with
you to your people." But Naomi said, "Return, my daughters. Why should you
go with me? Have I yet sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands? Return,
my daughters! Go, for I am too old to have a husband. If I said I have hope,
if I should even have a husband tonight and also bear sons, would you therefore
wait until they were grown? Would you therefore refrain from marrying? No,
my daughters; for it is harder for me than for you, for the hand of the LORD
has gone forth against me."
