[PC-USA] 2001-12-30 - Passages about Families

Encore from 1997-11-05

Some us have been blessed with wonderful families of origin, while some of them were unable or unwilling to give us the love we needed. God's word has a lot to say about both natural and Christian families. Whether we have a loving natural family or not, it is part of God's plan that we all belong to Christian families. Here is a little of what the Bible has to say about families.

Exo 20:12 (NIV) Honor your father and your mother,  so that you may live long in the land the LORDyour God is giving you.

1 Tim 5:8 (NIV) If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Mat 12:50 (NIV) For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.

Mat 19:5 (NIV) and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh?'

1 Cor 8:12-13 (NIV) When you sin against your brothers in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother to fall into sin, I  will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause him to fall.

1 Th 4:10 (NIV) And in fact, you do love all the brothers throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers, to do so more and more.

Psa 113:9 (NIV) He settles the barren woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the LORD.

Prov 31:10-11 (NIV) A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.

Psa 68:6 (NIV) God sets the lonely in families, he leads forth the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.
