2001-11-25 - Humility
Deut 8:2-3 And you shall remember all the way which the
LORD your God has led you in the wilderness these forty years, that He might
humble you, testing you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would
keep His commandments or not. 3 And He humbled you and let
you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your
fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by
bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of
the LORD. (NAS)
Job 22:29 "When you are cast down, you will speak with
confidence And the humble person He will save. (NAS)
Ps 10:16-18 The LORD is King forever and ever; Nations
have perished from His land. 17 O LORD, Thou hast heard the
desire of the humble; Thou wilt strengthen their heart, Thou wilt incline
Thine ear 18 To vindicate the orphan and the oppressed, That
man who is of the earth may cause terror no more. (NAS)
Prov 11:1-3 A false balance is an abomination to the LORD,
But a just weight is His delight. 2 When pride comes, then
comes dishonor, But with the humble is wisdom. 3 The integrity
of the upright will guide them, But the falseness of the treacherous will
destroy them. (NAS)
Isa 58:5 "Is it a fast like this which I choose, a day
for a man to humble himself? Is it for bowing one's head like a reed, And
for spreading out sackcloth and ashes as a bed? Will you call this a fast,
even an acceptable day to the LORD? (NAS)
Zeph 3:11-13 "In that day you will feel no shame Because
of all your deeds By which you have rebelled against Me; For then I will
remove from your midst Your proud, exulting ones, And you will never again
be haughty On My holy mountain. 12 "But I will leave among
you A humble and lowly people, And they will take refuge in the name of the
LORD. 13 "The remnant of Israel will do no wrong And tell
no lies, Nor will a deceitful tongue Be found in their mouths; For they shall
feed and lie down With no one to make them tremble." (NAS)
Matt 11:28-30 "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden,
and I will give you rest. 29 "Take My yoke upon you, and
learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you shall find rest
for your souls. 30 "For My yoke is easy, and My load is light."
(NAS)
James 4:5-10 But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it
says, "God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble."
7 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee
from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
9 Be miserable and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned
into mourning, and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves
in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you. (NAS)
1 Peter 5:6-11 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the
mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time,
7 casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for
you. 8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary,
the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
9 But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same
experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are
in the world. 10 And after you have suffered for a little
while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ,
will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.
11 To Him be dominion forever and ever.
Amen. (NAS)
Grace & Peace,
Mike
