As I mentioned in yesterday's devotional, Nov. 4 is the International Day
of Prayer for Persecuted Christians. Today we will look at more passages
related to people persecuted for their faith. All passages are from the New
International Version (NIV).
Daniel 13:16-19, 28 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied
to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before
you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we
serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O
king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will
not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up." Then
Nebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and his attitude
toward them changed. He ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter than
usual....28 Then Nebuchadnezzar said, "Praise be to the God of
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants!
They trusted in him and defied the king's command and were willing to give
up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own
God."
Hebrews 13:3 Remember those in prison as if you were their
fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were
suffering.
James 1:2-3 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever
you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your
faith develops perseverance.
Hebrews 13:33-35You sympathized with those in prison and
joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that
you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. So do not throw away your
confidence; it will be richly rewarded.
Phil 1:28 For it has been granted to you that for the
sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his
sake, engaged in the same conflict which you saw and now hear to be
mine.
2 Thessalonians 1:4-5 Therefore, among God's churches
we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials
you are enduring. All this is evidence that God's judgment is right, and
as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you
are suffering.
James 5:10 As for you, always be steady, endure suffering,
do the work of an evangelist, fulfil your ministry.
