explains the distinction between different reasons for taking a human life:

Exodus 20:13 (NASB) You shall not murder.
Geneisis 9:6 (NASB) Whoever sheds man's blood, by man
his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made man.
Matthew 26:52 (NASB) Then Jesus said to him, "Put your
sword back into its place; for all those who take up the sword shall perish
by the sword."
Revelation 13:10 (NASB) If anyone is destined for captivity,
to captivity he goes; if anyone kills with the sword, with the sword he must
be killed. Here is the perseverance and the faith of the saints.
Mark 7:20-22 (NASB) And He was saying, "That which proceeds
out of the man, that is what defiles the man.For from within, out of the
heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders,
adulteries, deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality,
envy, slander, pride and foolishness."
Matthew 5:21-22 (NASB) {Jesus said,}You have heard that
the ancients were told, " YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER' and "Whoever commits
murder shall be liable to the court.'22 ""But I say to you that everyone
who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever
says to his brother, " You good-for-nothing,' shall be guilty before the
supreme court; and whoever says, "You fool,' shall be guilty enough to go
into the fiery hell.
