[Calvary Chapel] 2000-10-05 - One Of Those Days

It has been one of those days today. Actually, it has been one of those days for a few days now. The thought strikes me that I really do not have it all that bad. I am blessed by the Lord with a nice home, a wife and two boys who love me very much, a good church, and a small collection of friends who are very precious to me. My time is a tad pinched, but getting slowly better. My office has been nuts, but we are getting organized. Fairly typical stuff, just lots of it.

And so, I have no room to complain. There are people who wake up hungry and begin the day by scavenging for a morsel to feed themselves; or even more painfully, their children. There are people who are literally trapped inside their dysfunctional bodies with a physically crippling disease. Their minds fully functioning, but trapped inside unable to communicate. It is when I realize how the Lord has blessed me that I begin to wonder.

How do people who do not know Jesus deal with the damaging blows that life can heave at us? For them, the death of a loved one is a horrific reminder that they to are mortal and will one day die too. For the Christian, it is a reminder that we will be home with Jesus as we pass from this life. We will see and know our loved ones again, and spend eternity with those who have accepted the free gift of the Messiah.

2 Cor 5:8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. (NAS)

Paul wanted to be home with Jesus. It was his heart's desire to leave this fallen state and sit at the feet of the Lord and learn from Him. Paul answered the call of Jesus to stay, teach, and disciple young Christians.

Even some who believe in God, or deity of some kind, feel that they are left here on their own to struggle to the end victorious or defeated. But God is interested in the details of your life. He walks beside you looking for an opportunity to reach out to you.

Matt 10:29-31 "Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30 "But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 "Therefore do not fear; you are of more value than many sparrows. (NAS)

If the hairs on our heads, which is not a constant for some of us, is of concern to our Maker, then other less detailed things are too. Don't try to put the Omnipotent in a box with a label. Learn to let God into more situations in your life, and sit back and let Him surprise you. He may truly shock you with the changes that He will bring into your life. When He is allowed to do so, you will grow and learn in ways you have not yet imagined.

Lord Jesus, we know that you care for us and the details of our lives that we can hardly be bothered with from moment to moment. You are with us in the big moments of trial and victory, and in the small unassuming moments. Give us opportunity to be there for those who do not know you and are suffering a loss, so that we might comfort them for Your glory. Help us to see Your leading and Your hand in the quiet, unassuming moments of our lives. Help us to let go and let You have your way. Amen.

Grace & Peace,
Mike
