2000-06-23 - The Glory of God
When I was preparing recently for the Sunday School class I teach, this verse struck me:
1 Cor. 10:31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. (NIV)
Note what Paul said in this verse. He didn't say "do what you do in church," for the glory of God. He did not say, "Do what you do in your 'religious life,' for the glory of God." Rather, he said "… whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." We should be thinking of God's glory in every activity, every part of our life. Do your attitudes as a student glorify God? Or do you do only what you have to, to "get by" and grudgingly at that? Do you give your work efforts and time in service to glorify God - with Him as your ultimate Boss - or are you constantly complaining and putting forth as little effort as necessary? How about your relationships: Do they promote God's glory? Does the way you drive when you are in a hurry, bring glory to your Heavenly Father?
I hope you will join me in mentally stopping yourself during the day, and thinking "are my words, attitudes and actions bringing glory to God right now?" And if they don't, I urge you to pray with me, that we will be more aligned to God's will.
