1997-08-13 - To Thine Own Self Be Not True
Jeremiah 17:9 - The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it. (KJV)
It seems that you hear about more and more divorces these days. People "falling" out of love with the very person that just a few short years they "fell" so deeply in live with.
Love is an action word. "For God so loved the world that He gave". Or,"If you love me keep my commandments." etc.
Many people wait for the other person to do something for them, instead of putting the other person first and doing for them. The more you do for someone else, the more you love them.
Love means to give and require nothing in return. That's what the cross was about.
God loved us so much that He gave us His only Son … all we have to do is believe on Him. Believe that His blood covers our sins. Believe that the whole price was paid. Believe He loves us that much.
Because of the cross and the price paid, our debt of love is to do. And doing fills us with love.
His is the pattern we cling to. His is the love we crave. "Til death do us part" has no meaning with Christ, because death brings us life everlasting.
I'm so glad He didn't wait for me to love Him first, aren't you?
To Christ be true.
Dear Lord, I thank You that Your love is never ending. I thank You that knowing the nature of my wandering heart, you hold my reins captive. I thank You for forgiving me for I am just dust. Lord, help me today to remember that the things that I want are not always the best that YOU want for me. Help me to remember to seek You first in all things. Thank You for Your mercy, thank You for Your grace. Amen.
