PC-USA 1996-04-12 - God Our Father

- - - - - -

Mat 6:6 (NIV) But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

He wants to answer our prayers -- a wonderful thought. : )

Mat 7:7-11 (NIV) "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. 9 "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

Also, He provides for our every need. We can trust Him completely! We need not worry about anything.

Mat 6:25-33 (NIV) "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life ? 28 "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

However, since He is the Perfect Father, He also disciplines us when we disobey. For example:

Mat 6:15 (NIV) But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

So we see that we have in God, a Perfect Heavenly Father. Some of us did not have loving dads, and it can skew the way we see God. But we do have a Perfect Father. And if we study the words of Jesus, we see that we have everything we need in a Father, in God. My prayer for you all is that you rest in the love of Your Heavenly Father today and always. Hope you all have a great weekend!
